Reanalysis on the sub-kilometer scale
In the 3rd phase of the Hans-Ertel-Centre for Weather Research, we investigate the feasibility of reanalyses at the sub-kilometer scale with horizontal resolutions down to 250m. The envisaged reanalysis system is focused on estimating atmospheric states over metropolitan areas. Key topics are the representation of the urban heat island (UHI) and the human impact on the atmosphere due to moisture and heat release. The system will make use of the new operational NWP system of DWD using the ICON-LAM model with the KENDA data assimilation scheme.
