Validation/Evaluation

Besides the standard validation, check for consistency, and error statistics compared to selected independent observations (retained from data assimilation), a special emphasis was placed on precipitation and high-impact weather situations. Wahl et al. (2017) show that the added value of a convection-permitting regional reanalysis compared to other regional and global reanalyses leads to a more detailed representation of small scale variability. Especially, the spatio-temporal accuracy of precipitation events is significantly improved due to the assimilation for RADAR precipitation measurements.
