COSMO-REA2

The convection-permitting reanalysis system COSMO-REA2 has been developed based on the NWP model COSMO. The regional reanalysis system for Central Europe simulates atmospheric processes at a higher spatial resolution, of 0.018° (2 km) compared to 6 km in COSMO-REA6. It comprises the assimilation of observational data using the existing nudging scheme of COSMO complemented by a snow analysis. Further, COSMO-REA2 makes use of a latent heat nudging (LHN) scheme assimilating precipitation amounts derived from radar observations. Lateral boundaries are provided by COSMO-REA6. The reanalysis data set covers the high-quality radar period 2007-2013 and is currently in production for the period 2014-2016.

Requests for data not yet available for download or questions regarding the reanalysis should be send to cdc.rea@dwd.de.
